About

nooxli is a basic guide for beginners to get started with cryptocurrency in Canada.

I wrote this guide for beginners after helping a number of friends and family get started with Bitcoin and crypto and recommending how they should buy their first Bitcoin and what some of the associated risks are.

What People on Reddit are Saying about this Website

Occasionally this website will get shared on Reddit. Below are screenshots of positive comments we have received about our Bitcoin and crypto content from totally anonymous strangers.

The name of this website changed from howtobuybitcoin101.com to nooxli.com in 2024.

Buying Bitcoin is a risky speculative investment. There are also many scams involving Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. You are responsible for your funds. You are your bank. Educate yourself accordingly.

This website is simplifying a complex new technology (blockchain and cryptocurrency). To help newcomers to the space get an idea of what’s involved and some of the companies that serve Canadians.

We provide software reviews and how-to tutorials for crypto-related software. Nothing on this site is financial advice.

I recommend learning as you go. Start small. Get comfortable moving your crypto around by sending and receiving it in your wallet. If you make a mistake you can definitely lose all your money or crypto and there is no one to call.

Google and do research each step of the way to learn more about the underlying technology and to get a better understanding of how and why things work the way they work.

How This Started

Founded by Craig Leontowicz (a web developer & designer) in October 2020. Our mission is to create simple, impartial, practical how-to guides for beginners learning how to buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. We recommend the best exchanges, wallets, and more. Contact me on LinkedIn or Twitter.

I’ve been investing, trading, and speculating on crypto for more than a few years. To give you an idea — I have had exchange accounts on Mt. Gox, QuadrigaCX, and FTX.

If you don’t recognize those names — they are all exchanges that blew up in spectacular fashion with billions of dollars of user funds going missing or lost.

Knock-on-wood I didn’t have any funds on these exchanges at the time they went down. That is why it is always important to send your crypto to a wallet you have the seed words for so you can have custody of your own digital assets.

I started this site because when I would Google Canadian exchange reviews and related info, the top-ranking websites were/are showing exchanges that just don’t work for a majority of Canadians.

It became obvious that all these sites are just showing what gets them a commission and I didn’t believe a lot of these writers had ever opened an exchange account on the sites they were recommending.

What started as a simple one-page website has grown exponentially over the years.

We continue to add to and improve our content, editorial standards, and review methodology based on our real-life experience in crypto as a Canadian.

How We Make Money

We get paid a small commission when referring customers to products and services. We only recommend products and services that we would recommend to family and friends.
